With its mild taste and malleable texture, cauliflower has been made into imitations of basic carbohydrates like rice and gnocchi. Now you can buy fresh frozen cauliflower pasta.
cauliflower, the brand behind the iconic cauliflower pizza crust that helped transform shape-changing vegetables into on-trend ingredient status in 2017, has launched two new products: linguine and pappardelle noodles, made primarily from cauliflower and be sold frozen.
While there are already dried noodles made with cauliflower flour in the market, what’s new is that cauliflower is listing the versatile vegetable as the first ingredient and selling its frozen noodles – the idea is that it will better resemble the quality of fresh noodles sold in the chilled or chilled-out Freezer area. The other ingredients are corn flour, potato starch, rice flour, and lentil flour.
Cauliflower pasta has a lot going for it when it comes to nutrition. It is gluten-free and therefore suitable for people with celiac disease or a wheat allergy. (It’s also vegan for the curious.) As the name suggests, cauliflower noodles contain ⅓ cup of vegetables per 1½ cup serving plus five grams of fiber. (Pasta made from durum wheat semolina usually contains two to three grams of fiber per serving). And weekday cooks in a hurry will be pleased to hear that it has an unusually fast cooking time of three minutes.
With a suggested retail price of $ 5.99, cauliflower noodles are more expensive than regular noodles (typically sold for $ 2 or less), according to a brand press release, but are on par with many alternative specialty noodles made from ingredients like legumes and quinoa. Caulipower’s Cauliflower Pasta is currently available nationwide Amazon in a six-pack for $ 44.95 ($ 7.49 each). You can also find it in the frozen food section at grocery stores like Fresh Thyme and Jewel (in the Midwest).
Caulipower will increase the availability of the pasta during the year. Consumers will be able to order it through FreshDirect beginning April, and in May the noodles will be available at HyVee (in the Midwest) and Gelson’s (in Southern California). Walmart will be stocking cauliflower noodles from fall 2021, which will be available from thousands of other retailers by the end of the year.
